Blausee is a small lake in the Bernese Oberland, whose incredibly turquoise blue color takes your breath away. It is enclosed in a private nature park where you will find walking paths, a playground, a hotel with a restaurant and a picnic area. I’m really glad to discover this idyllic place with my parents who recently visited us.

Getting there

By car: Blausee (literally Blue Lake) is about 50 minutes’ drive (less than 60km) from Bern, between Frutigen and Kandersteg. Take the A6 highway to Spiez, take the exit towards Kandersteg/Adelboden/Frutigen.

Parking: the first time we met a system where you have to enter your vehicle’s license plate in the parking machine. Parking is 3CHF for 4 hours, 5CHF for the whole day.

By bus: Take the AFA line 230 that runs between Adelboden and Kandersteg (Blausee BE stop).

Opening hours and admission

The park is open all year (except for two weeks off-time in January) from 9 am to 9 pm. Admission for adults is 8CHF, for children from 6 to 16 years 4CHF. Included in the price is a boat trip (until 5 pm), visit to the organic trout farm, use of the children’s playground and the picnic area with wood.

Nature Park Blausee

Together with the ticket, you will get a map of the area where the routes to and around the lake are marked. The most direct is the tarmac road, it´s just 5minutes´ walk from the entrance. We chose a slightly more adventurous access road and set out between the rock gorges.

Walk around the lake

When we experienced the first “wow” effect, we decided to take the walk around the lake first before the boat ride. The autumn atmosphere, when the fog clouds rolled over the surrounding forests with the sun rays trying to penetrate among them was perfect (I dare say it was magical).

And when you finish your walk around the lake, I just recommend to sit on the shore for a moment and look at the beauty.

Boat ride

Then we went to the pier where we got in the boat. Our small family group had it for ourselves, so it was such a private trip 🙂 Everyone liked the glass bottom when we could see under the feet the trouts in crystal clear water. And you can also see the lake from a different perspective from the boat.

Museum

Right next to the pier is the house, Blauseemuseum, where you can see the various artifacts pointing to the place.

Playground and picnic area

For children, of course, there was more interesting the children´s playground than the lake itself. And when they got exhausted, we could have a snack at one of the countless picnic tables. At almost every table there is a small grill, which I think is a smart solution for a large number of visitors.

The Blausee hosts the ideal source of life for the organic trouts.

To get back to the car park, we chose the route around Sommerau. Here we were surprised by the herd of tame lamas.

Summary

I’m hesitant to say that Blausee is the most beautiful lake in Switzerland. It’s more like a pond in size 🙂 In my eyes, nothing will overcome the nearby Lake Oeschinensee. But a trip to the beautiful Blausee is always definitely a nice thing if you have visitors to Switzerland.
